This painting was loosely based on the Celtic designs from the Book of Kells Folio 33r eight-circle cross carpet page (original on right)I used the idea of the layout of the eight circles and designed new celtic knot and celtic zoomorphics to fit into the panels. The painting is to depict from sunrise ( at the top) to sunset (at the bottom). The space of time though is 1,000 years from the dawn of Paganism in Ireland to the arrival of Christianity. The painting took about 12 weeks to complete from start to finish.
